When to use replacement prompts
Sometimes you have a lifestyle image that’s almost perfect, but you want to swap out a specific prop — maybe replace a vase with a plant, change a side table, or swap a lamp. Rather than regenerating the entire scene, you can use a replacement prompt.
How to write a replacement prompt
Use the formula: “replace [specific object] with [new object]” plus the exact location in the image, and tell the AI to keep everything else the same.
The three essentials
Exact location: Where in the image is the object? (“on the left hand side of the bed”, “in the far corner”)
What to replace with what: Be specific about both the old and new items
Keep the rest: Always add “Keep the rest of the image the same”
Example
✅ Good prompt: on the left hand side of the bed, replace the vase and side table with a large kentia plant in a stone pot which matches the light fixtures. Keep the rest of the image the same |
This works perfectly because it specifies the exact location (left hand side of the bed), names both items being replaced (vase and side table), describes the replacement in detail (large kentia plant in a stone pot matching the light fixtures), and tells the AI to keep everything else the same.
❌ Bad prompt: replace the vase with a large kentia plant |
This is too vague. It doesn’t specify where the vase is, doesn’t describe the replacement in enough detail, and doesn’t tell the AI to keep the rest of the scene intact.
